Right Order or Sequence of Asana, Pranayama, Meditation

The order or sequence of doing Asana, Pranayama, and Meditation explained in Hatha Yoga Pradipika is Asana –> Pranayama –> Meditation. Hatha Yoga Pradipika is one of the authentic Yoga Texts written by Great Yogi Swatmarama of Nath tradition disciple of Swami Gorakhnath.

After asanas, pranayama should be practised to purify the nadis. For this purpose nadi shodhana pranayama is the best. Then mudras should be performed to channelize the energy and create specific attitudes of mind, and bandhas to force the energy upward.

In Hatha Yoga the sequence is - Asana first then Pranayama, Mudras adn Bandhas. Lastly one should sit quietly in a Meditative Pose. –Hatha Yoga Pradipika, commentary by Swami Muktibodhananda (Bihar School of Yoga, India)

Thus the right order or sequence is Asana –> Pranayama –> Meditation
